Welcome to
June's The Month Ahead. Summer is now officially upon us. The
days are long so make the most of the lighter evenings. Let's have a
look at some of the traditional feasts and festivals, events and
exhibitions that are happening around the UK this month.
1st
June – The
Derby, Epsom. The greatest of the flat races and of the social
events of the year on the British calendar.
1st
to 2nd June - The
Big Lunch. Organised by The Eden Project this is a chance for
people around the country to come together and share lunch.
5th
to 9th June - RHS
Chatsworth Flower Show. Against the stunning backdrop of the
Duke and Duchess of Devonshire's stately home this Derbyshire flower
show returns for its third year. See show gardens, buy plants from
top nurseries and enjoy the food and drink stalls.
8th
to 9th June - River
Exe Regatta, Devon. The sailing clubs around the River Exe gather
for their annual event. Watch the sailing and join in later with the
evening celebrations.
9th
June - Open Farm Sunday 2019.
Across the country hundreds of farm will open to the public. See what
it is like to live and work on a farm and the challenges the farmers
face.
14th
and 15th June - National
Refuse Championships, Weston-super-Mare. This charity event sees
teams racing against each other to collect waste and recycling.
Free to spectate with rides and food stalls.
15th
and 16th June - Wings
and Wheels, Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey. Held over Father's Day
weekend motoring and aviation fans will be thrilled by the sight of
the Red Arrows at this year's show.
18th
and 19th June - Royal
Cheshire County Show. Tabley near Knutsford is the setting for
this annual show that dates back to 1838. See the best in Cheshire
rich agricultural heritage with competitions for animals ranging from
cows to rabbits.
22nd
and 23rd June - Cheltenham
Balloon Fiesta. The ground and air of Cheltenham Racecourse will
be filled with the spectacular sight of hot air balloons. Along with
the balloons there will be a giant funfair and fireworks display.
22nd
to 30th June - Pembrokeshire
Fish Week. The towns of the Welsh coastline will be filled with
events to highlight their fishing history. Join in with seashore
safaris, fresh fish tastings and cookery demonstrations.
22nd
June to 29th September - Yorkshire
Sculpture International 2019. A free festival of sculpture across
Leeds and Wakefield. You'll find sculptures in four different
galleries plus special commissions around the cities.
All events
