Welcome to
April's The Month Ahead. As is often the case in April there's
a lot going on this month. The four day Easter bank holiday coincides
with the Queen's birthday and St. George's Day follows days after it.
Let's have a look at some of the traditional feasts and festivals,
events and exhibitions that are happening around the UK this month.
5th
April to 1st September – Brickosaurs,
Marwell Zoo. Created with more than two million Lego bricks all
dinosaur and Lego fans are in for a treat. You can't fail to miss the
eight metre Tyrannosaurus Rex!
8th
to 22nd April - National
Trust Easter Events. Up and down the country the National Trust
are organising a whole host of events to keep children and families
busy over the Easter holidays.
11th
to 14th April - Books
By The Beach, Scarborough Book Festival. Head to the Yorkshire
coast for a long weekend of talks from historical author and
broadcaster Kate Williams, former cricketer Mike Brearley and
politician Alan Johnson.
12th
to 14th April - Whitby
Goth Weekend. The landing place of Dracula attracts Goths from
around the country for their spring event. Check out the music,
shopping and the food across the town.
13th
to 14th April – Festeaval,
Tobacco Dock, East London. Celebrate all things with a weekend of
special events. Taste tea, cook with tea and even have beauty
makeovers with tea ingredients!
19th
to 22nd April - Eastertide
at Kentwell Hall, Long Melford, Suffolk. Step back in time and
experience Easter as it was in Tudor times. See the cooks preparing a
feast for Easter Sunday and other Tudor characters going about their
daily lives.
20th
April to 6th May - World
Snooker Championship, Sheffield. The best snooker players in the
world will be returning to The Crucible Theatre to try and claim the
title. Look out for the players around the city while they film for
the BBC.
25th
to 28th April - Harrogate
Spring Flower Show. The first of the big gardening shows of the
year. Marvel at the show gardens, pick your plants in the nursery
pavilion and pick up some expert advice.
27th
to 28th April - British
Touring Car Championship, Donington Park. A must for petrol-heads
as the championship series visits the famous track in Derbyshire.
27th
to 28th April - Shakespeare's
Birthday Celebrations, Stratford Upon Avon. The home town of
William Shakespeare each year has a weekend of events to coincide
with his birthday. Watch the procession with characters from his
plays and find the living statues around the town.
