Welcome to
August's The Month Ahead. The scorching summer in the UK seems
set to continue. With the schools on holiday there's plenty of things
to do this month. Don't forget the all important Bank Holiday weekend
– the last one until Christmas! Let's have a look at some of the
traditional feasts and festivals, events and exhibitions that are
happening around the UK this month.
1st
August - Yorkshire
Day. This year the county's smallest city of Ripon is the
official host of Yorkshire Day. Look out for special events
throughout Yorkshire.
3rd-11th
August – Eisteddfod,
Cardiff. All the best of Welsh culture is brought together in a week
long festival.
4th-11th
August - Cowes
Week. The waters around the Isle of Wight are filled with the
annual sailing regatta. Watch from the shore or join in by using one
of the spectator boats or a thrilling RIB ride.
11th
August - Portavogie
Seafood Festival, Co. Down. Celebrity chefs Paul Rankin and Nick
Nairn will be giving demonstrations. Don't miss the trawler pull
across the harbour!
9th-12th
August - Bristol
International Balloon Fiesta. The 40th anniversary of
Europe's largest balloon meeting. Over four days around 130 balloons
will be on show in this free event.
10th-19th
August - Falmouth Week.
A week long sailing regatta with plenty of events on the shoreside.
Look to the sky on the 15th August as the Red Arrows are
due to make an appearance.
14th-16th
August – Guildford-on-Sea.
The landlocked Surrey town brings the beach inland. Enjoy sand,
deckchairs and seaside style entertainment.
17th-19th
August - Art
in Clay, Hatfield House. Experience the best in sculpture and
ceramics at this leading show. Have a go yourself in the clay
creation zone.
17th-19th
August - Lytham
1940s Wartime Weekend. The Lancashire coast plays host to all
things nostalgic kicking off with
18th-19th
August - Iron
Age Life, Chiltern Open Air Museum. Go back in time in Chalfont
St Giles, Buckinghamshire, to experience life thousands of years ago.
27th
August - The Grand
Oldtimer Rally, Folkstone, Kent. Car rallies have been held since
1896 and 2018 looks like it won't disappoint vintage car fans. Expect
an assortment of around 400 cars to be on display.
