Sunday Snap – The city volcano

We were in Glasgow for last week's Sunday Snap looking at one of the classic chair designs of a famous designer and architect. I asked who the designer was and the answer is

Charles Rennie Mackintosh

Drawing the right answer were Susan, Lisa and Soma.

This week we are travelling across Scotland to Edinburgh. Overlooking the capital city is a group of hills which this extinct volcano is the highest. At its summit it reaches 251m giving panoramic views across Edinburgh and the port of Leith. There is little chance of the volcano bursting back to life as the lava samples found on the rock have been dated to around 340 million years ago. This week though it was in the news as a hill fire caught alight and spread quickly through the grass and gorse. The sight of the fire and smoke prompted some looking on to question if the volcano had come back to life.

One legend associated with the extinct volcano is that it was once the site of the castle of Camelot. Whether it actually existed or not is up for debate but the name of this rock does evolve the mystical king of Camelot. This week's question is

What is the name of Edinburgh's volcano?

We were joined last week by Susan and some beautiful blossom. We had some of Sara's favourite things with a puppy, irises and lilacs in the evening sun and rhododendrons and dogwoods basking in the heat. Soma showed us how she puts colours on her quilts together. As a tribute to the royal wedding Anne shared one of her wedding photographs. At the beach Kara was drinking in the view and having a look at the beach huts. Finally, a trip to San Francisco for Jesh produced some city snaps.
