Welcome to
March's The Month Ahead. There's plenty to forward to this
month including the clocks going forward one hour on 25th
March. Before then there is St. David's Day, Mothering Sunday and St.
Patrick's Day. The month finishes with Maundy Thursday and Good
Friday. Let's have a look at some of the traditional feasts and
festivals, events and exhibitions that are happening around the UK
this month.
Throughout
March - National
Garden Scheme Snowdrop Festival. Across England and Wales private
and public gardens open their gates to the public to raise money
while showing off their daffodil displays.
1st
March - Free
entry to Cadw sites, across Wales. Learn about the history and
heritage of Wales on their patron saint's day. Cadw, who manage a
number of historic sites across Wales, will be offering free entry to
everyone for one day only.
5th
March – St.
Piran's Day, Truro. The patron saint of Cornwall is celebrated
throughout Cornwall on 5th March. In Truro the annual
parade finishes with free pasties.
7th-11th
March - Women
of the World Festival, Southbank Centre, London. To coincide with
International Women's Day the 8th WOWLondon
features talks, performances and art installations.
9th-18th
March - British Science
Week, across the country. A 10 day celebration of science,
technology, engineering and maths. Choose from hundreds of events to
get involved.
11th
March – Mother's
Day at The National Trust, across the country. Treat your mum to
an afternoon tea, craft event or a walk around the gardens in
National Trust venues around England and Wales.
12th-18th
March - Shakespeare
Week, across the country. Indulge in all things to with the Bard
with performances, workshops and craft events.
16th-18th
March - St.
Patrick's Day celebrations, London. The main events of this
year's three day celebrations are centred around Trafalgar Square. It
culminates in the parade on Sunday 18th which goes from
Piccadilly to Trafalgar Square.
17th
March - St.
Patrick's Day Parade and Concert, Belfast. This year's parade
runs from Royal Avenue to Writers Square. It finishes with a free
concert at Custom House.
17th-23rd
March - Sport Relief. Get
up and moving to raise money for charity. Organise your own event or
take part in The Nation's Billion Steps Challenge.
29th
March – Royal
Maundy Service, St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Each year the Queen
gives money to nominated recipients on Maundy Thursday. Tickets for
the services will have already been allocated but you can be one of
the crowd outside.
All events
