Welcome to December's The Month Ahead. This month is of course dominated
by Christmas and New Year's Eve celebrations. Let's have a look at
some of the traditional feasts and festivals, events and exhibitions
that are happening around the UK this month.
Throughout
December to 5th January – Christmas
at Windsor Castle. As Windsor becomes the focus for next May's
Royal Wedding take in the delights of the Christmas season.
Throughout
December to 6th January – Christmas
Garland at Cotehele, Cornwall. The National Trust property has
had a dried flower garland since 1956. The 60ft display is made from
flowers grown on the estate.
Throughout
December to 7th January – Hampton
Court Palace Ice Rink. You may not be able to skate on the River
Thames any more but you can come close with the open air ice rink at
Henry VIII's palace.
9th-10th
December – Mount
Edgecumbe Christmas Fayre, Cornwall. Now in its 14th
year enjoy local produce, Christmas carolling, craft and gifts plus
an appearance from Santa.
14th-16th
December - A
Christmas Carol, Lancaster Castle. Charles Dickens' seasonal
classic comes to life with special performances in the Shire Hall of
Lancaster Castle.
15th-23rd
December – Enchanted
Osborne, Isle of Wight. As darkness descends join the trail
around the grounds of Queen Victoria's beloved Osborne House. The
gardens will be lit with a traditional fairground at the end to
enjoy.
17th
December – Festive
Fun Run at Stackpole, Pembrokeshire. Get in shape before
Christmas with run round the Stackpole estate. Choose from 1.5, 3 or
6 mile route.
26th
December – Tenby
Boxing Day Swim. Join 700 brave souls as they dive into the
chilly sea off the North Beach for the annual Boxing Day dip.
30th
December-1st January - Edinburgh
Hogmanay. Join in with three days of celebrations as the Scottish
capital says goodbye to 2017 and welcomes in 2018.
