We paid a visit to the the church on the hill for last week's Sunday Snap. I asked what the name of the Parisian basilica is and the answer is
Sacré Cœur
Reaching the top of the hill with the right answer were Lisa, Cheryl and Anne.
This week we move from hill to island in Paris for our choice of church. It is situated on the island in the River Seine known as the Île de la Cité. In religious terms it is important as the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Paris however it is its literary and subsequent cinematic connections that have made it famous throughout the world.
In 1831 Victor Hugo's romantic Gothic novel was published. The story centred around this cathedral and features the half-blind hunchback Quasimodo. Through ringing the church's bells he has become deaf. Through the course of the novel he saves and is saved himself by the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda. Since the book was published it has been made in into over 10 films, several television adaptations plus theatre productions and musicals. In sketch shows Quasimodo is often portrayed as swinging from ropes shouting, "The bells! The bells!" This week's question is
What is the name of the cathedral?
We were joined last week by Susan with a troll and a wookie! Lisa has gone from Spanish city to Catalan countryside. At Beaulieu Kara and co have been trying out the vintage cars. Out in the grounds she found a bee seeking out some of last nectar of the summer. Anne has been enjoying her beautiful flower delivery. In Turkey Cheryl found a roof of umbrellas. We were treated to the beautiful sketches by Soma. Finally, we have a pop of colour from Sue.
