We had a trip to the seaside
for last week's Sunday
Snap of a Merseyside pier. I asked where the pier was located and
the answer is
Southport
I've had a bit of a sporting
week this week taking in the best of English sports. First up was a
visit to watch some rugby. This was for the end of season Aviva
Premiership Final. It was played in front of 76,000 just a few
thousand shy of its 82,000 capacity. The size of this stadium makes
it the largest dedicated rugby union venue in the world. As well as
rugby union matches it has also played host to music concerts,
conventions and from this year American Football as part of the NFL
International Series.
Originally the England Rugby
Union team played their matches at Crystal Palace but due to its
rising popularity it was decided a separate ground should be
purchased. In 1907 a former cabbage patch was bought in the suburbs
of south west London. It started to be used for club and
international matches but during World War I the ground was used to
graze animals on. After the end of the war continued development was
allowed to bring it up to its present capacity. It was here in 1938
that the BBC televised the first ever live rugby match. Along with
hosting some classic rugby matches it was at this stadium in 1988
that the anthem Swing Low, Sweet Chariot was first sung in
front of an English rugby crowd and was subsequently adopted by the
fans. This week's question is
What stadium is it?
We were joined last week by
the young ones Jack
and Noah. Cheryl
captured the dancing duo in the madhouse. We had some shots of the
beautiful Cornish coast at Kynance Cove from Shaheen.
Blowing get well wishes for daddy was Susan's
daughter. For a simply stunning selfie check out Kelly's
black and white creation. Down on the Weymouth
coastline Kara has been spotting cormorants.

I must be honest, I have no idea sorry. Looks like a fun day xx
ReplyDeleteIs it Twickingham? I must admit I'm not a follower of rugby and it's the only stadium I can think of. I did spend a week in a welsh college doing a summer school in music, while the other half of the college was filled with rugby players. It was a fun week ;)
ReplyDeleteIs it Twickenham? I think I went to see U2 play there once! Stephen
ReplyDeleteIt is Twickenham I think - we drive past a lot but never been inside
ReplyDeleteTwickenham. I love Rugby and before we moved back north we went to the Rugby 7's there
ReplyDeleteWow, that is an enormous stadium, I think I'd be a bit intimidated there. Mich x
ReplyDeleteI have no idea! I'm not a rugby fan, but glad you had a good day. x
