Clevedon
For this week I'm feeling in
a generous mood. The dome of this cathedral is perhaps one of the
best known in the world. During the Blitz in December 1940 bombs fell
on and around the cathedral and the famous photograph of it
surrounded by smoke was captured. Amazingly the cathedral survived
but the buildings that stood around it were destroyed. This is not
the first cathedral building to stand on this site. The previous
cathedrals fell into disrepair or were destroyed by fire. In 1669 Sir
Christopher Wren was designated the architect of the present
building. It took over 40 years to be fully completed. In recent
times it has come to prominence as the location for the state
funerals of Sir Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher plus the
wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. This week's
question is
What is the name of this
cathedral?
Joining us last week was
Kara
and a leap of faith. There was a trip to the beach for Susan's
brood. Nadine
gave us an insight in the Instagram way of life. Over in Manchester
there were ghosts of a printworks with. We close with Kelly
and a beautifully coloured sky.

ReplyDeleteIt definitely takes my breath away each time I see it- St Paul's Cathedral.
ReplyDeleteI was just saying the other day that very soon St. Paul's won't be visible on the London sky line and will be something you stumble upon when walking around the streets
ReplyDeleteA bit late but it's a lovely picture of St Paul's. Beautyqueenuk and I were there a few weeks ago after a visit to Tate Modern on the South Bank. It really is lovely. I attended a funeral there once and it was eerie inside - sent shivers down my spine. Stephen
ReplyDeleteI have never seen St Paul's taken from this angle before. Every time I visit London, I am fascinated by the jumble and mismatch of old and new architecture, it's so unique and I love it. This photo captures that aspect of the city perfectly.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo really suits being in black and white!
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely stunning building - I love the mood of the photo. x
ReplyDeleteLovely photo, but I have to say I wouldn't have recognised it, I'm just an occasional London tourist.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning picture. St Paul's, right?
