A tale of a Victorian
heroine battling against the storm seas off the Northumbrian coast
was the subject of last week's Sunday
Snap. The brave young lady who persuaded her father to sail out
from the Longstone Lighthouse to rescue some of the passengers from
the wreck of the Forfarshire was
Grace Darling
For today's photograph it's
over to SW19 and the home of tennis and The Championships, Wimbledon.
The reason I was there was because right behind me was Andy Murray's
Olympic Gold postbox. You can only imagine my giddiness at being able
to combine two of my favourite things in the form of postboxes and
tennis in one go. Today marks the traditional rest day in the middle
of The Championships except on three occasions in 1991, 1997 and
2004. This was when the rain stopped so many matches in the first
week it was forced to open in order to play catch up. No fear of such
problems this year! The first Championships were held in 1877 when
the club was in Worple Road. As the popularity of the game increased
a new location was sought and it was up the hill to its present
location to Church Lane in 1922. Whilst the tournament only lasts two
weeks each year other tennis events are held there including Davis
Cup matches and of course the London Olympics in 2012. The rest of
the time the facilities are used as a private members' club with many
of the outside hard courts used all year round. This week's question
is
What is the name of the
club that hosts the The Championships, Wimbledon?
We were joined last week by
Cheryl
and a group photograph of the madhouse kids. Over at Susan's
there was a big kiss for daddy.
