Beefeater at The Brecks

When I was a child the go-to destination for a family birthday was the local Beefeater. It had everything we required with favourite meals for all of us. Such was its popularity that we filled it twice for my Nan's 80th and 90th birthday gatherings. Sadly that location is no longer part of the Beefeater chain but there are still plenty of Beefeater restaurants around.
Fast forward several years to my birthday and it was off to the Beefeater at The Brecks, Rotherham. There's been a pub on this site for years but in recent times it has been run by Beefeater. A recent addition is a Premier Inn attached to the side of the The Brecks. We visited last August and had a very nice meal but we were pleasantly surprised to see it had undergone a refurbishment in recent months.
As we were booked in for an early evening meal it meant we could take advantage of the cheaper meals on the lunch menu. This selection is available Monday to Saturday until 6.30pm. My husband and I chose starters from this menu – Loaded potato dippers and Nachos for one. Both were priced at a very reasonable £2.49. My daughter chose off the main menu and went for the very juicy and plump Garlic King Prawns at £5.49.
For the mains my son went for the Pizza off the children's Mr Men menu which he was able to pick his own toppings. It looked like it had a hand-stretched base and looked much better than the photograph on the menu. My daughter went for the big bowl of Meatball Linguine at £8.99. Covered with a tomato pomodoro sauce it had three large beef meatballs in it. My husband tried the Smoked Paprika Chicken priced at £7.99 off the lunch menu. He also opted to swap his chips at no extra charge for the spicy skinny chips. I decided that since we were at a Beefeater I needed to try out one of their steaks. I haven't got the biggest of appetites so the 6oz Flat Iron at £7.99 was the perfect size for me. I ordered it medium-rare and got it cooked just perfectly. Contrary to its name it isn't flat but a thick cut with plenty of flavour and very tender.
I was too full for a dessert but the kids were able to squeeze in an ice cream together before we left. It is perfect for families but around us there were couples, lone business travellers and friends meeting up for a meal together. All-in-all a lovely meal in a very smart but relaxed setting.

I received a voucher to cover the cost of the meal. The views, words and photographs are my own.
