It was only right that last
week's photograph of The stained glass window in a royal palace had a guess from
Beauty queenuk and
BeautyKingUK as to its
location. Sadly their guess of the Palace of Westminster wasn't
correct but there was a right answer. Jen from Mum in the Madhouse spotted it was Henry VIII's favourite steal from
Cardinal Wolsey. The answer was:
The Great Hall, Hampton
Court Palace
For this week since the
season of Advent has started today, being the fourth Sunday before
Christmas, I've decided to go with a picture of a church. As you can
see there is one standout feature of this church – its twisted
spire. Whilst the twist is thought to be intentional the lean not so.
There are a number of reasons for this - the use of 'green'
unseasoned timber, the lack of skilled carpenters in the 14th
century due to the Black Death and the fact that the timbers on the
warmer south face have shrunk more than the ones on the north side.
Local legend although states that the spire will straighten itself
when a virgin marries in the church... Therefore this week's question
is
Where is the location of
this church?

What an amazing spire. I love the theory it could be due to the lack of skilled workers following the Black Death! I have no idea where it is but I'm going to say somewhere in Yorkshire?!
ReplyDeleteI am still sticking with Westminster ;)... and for this week Chester x
ReplyDeleteIt's been over 20 years since I've been in the Palace of Westminster so I know it isn't!
