You can get subscription boxes for virtually every kind of product these days. From fruit and veg to beauty boxes, foodie delights and even for your pets. It comes as no surprise then that there is now one for beer. Those who know me realise that not a drop of the demon drink passes my lips however Mr JibberJabber is a card carrying member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and was very willing to help me out when a delivery arrived from Beer52.
The concept is quite simple.
For £24 a month, including postage, you are sent a selection of 8
bottled beers from 'the world's most pioneering independent
microbreweries'. My box arrived fully intact and very well packaged.
Upon opening it I found there was also a packet of Popchips for a
savoury snack to go with one of the beers.
In our box were the
following beers:
William Bros. Brewing Co. - Grozet – 330ml 5% ABV Inspired by a 16th century Scottish recipe containing gooseberries and bogmyrtle.
Cumberland Breweries - Corby Fox – 500ml 4.7% ABV A clear, deep reddish
brown ale brewed in Carlisle.
Highland Brewing Company - Orkney IPA – 500ml 5% ABV Brewed in Orkney as
a modern version of an Indian Pale Ale.
Malmesbury Brewery - Killer Cat Manga – 330ml 5% ABV An experimental brew
with Citra hops none of the bitterness.
Black Wolf Brewery – Coulls 330ml 4.2% ABV A Scottish premium craft
lager best served chilled.
Oakham Ales – Citra 500ml – 4.6% ABV Recently awarded 'Champion
Golden Ale 2014' at the Great British Beer Festival.
Brewers and Union - Steph Weiss 500ml – 5% ABV A Bavarian wheat beer
brewed in Munich.
Hillside Brewery – Centurion 330ml -7% ABV. An American style IPA from this Gloucestershire brewery.
As you see from the above
range that's quite a selection of beers that have been sourced. My
local supermarkets stock a decent selection of bottled beers but none
of the above and rarely does the range differ from month to month.
There is a specialist beer shop in Sheffield but it is over the other
side of the city and necessitates a special trip to go there. You can
buy most of these beer direct from the brewers but this usually
requires you to buy a case of at least 12 of the same bottle plus you
would have to pay for postage and packing.
Also in the box was an
introduction to Beer52 and their own magazine Ferment. There's
also some additional discount vouchers including a £25 voucher for
Hello Fresh.
You can join yourself on a
rolling contract and you are able to cancel at time as long as you
give them sufficient notice to stop your box being sent out. If beer
is not your thing but you do have a beer loving friend then gift
subscriptions are also available for 1, 3, 6 and 12 months.
Mr JibberJabber thinks this
is a great way to try all manner of different beers without the
hassle of going out shopping for them. If you think 8 beers a month
is bit much to get through perhaps you could start your own 'at home'
beer club and invite your mates round for a tasting session.
If you fancy trying this
yourself I am able to offer readers of JibberJabberUK an unique
discount code to get £10 off their first code. Just type in JIBBER10
in the promo box at the checkout.
I was sent a case of beer
